Inter wingback Matteo Darmian feels that the goals he scored for the Nerazzurri in a 1-0 win over Cagliari during the 2020-21 title race was one of the most significant of his entire career. Speaking in the official matchday programme for today’s Serie A clash with Cremonese, the 32-year-old gave his thoughts on the significance of the goal which was one of the pivotal moments on the way to the Nerazzurri getting their hands on the Serie A title race for the first time in eleven years.
Inter were well into the second half of their Serie A clash with Cagliari during April of 2021, one of their last few matches of the season and a fixture in which three points would have represented a big step towards the Scudetto, and in need of a goal from somewhere. There was no shortage of goal threats in the Nereazzurri’s team that day, but no one had managed to break through, until an unlikely scorer in the form of Darmian found the back of the net in the 72nd minute. The Spanish giants have had to field an attacker at right-back this season to suggest that the club misses Hakimi, who would have slotted into the role with minimal fuss. Spanish international Dani Carvajal is the first choice right-back but he has not been able for manager Zinedine Zidane for a big part of this season due to injuries and the Frenchman has turned to Spanish attacker Lucas Vazquez to do a job at right-back.
