Matteo Darmian and Torino matchwinner Denzel Dumfries have shared playing time on the right side of the five-man defence at Inter Milan this season until the past games when the latter was picked mainly due to the injury to Darmian. Italian utility defender Darmian made his return from injury with a place in the Inter squad for the Torino game. He had spent three weeks on the sidelines due to the injury he picked up during the away game against newly promoted club Venezia in the league at the end of last month.

In the absence of Darmian, Dutchman Dumfries has been able to establish himself as the go-to man for the right wingback position during Inter Milan matches. He has scored a goal in each of his last two games in the Premier League. Dutch international Dumfries scored one of the goals as Inter Milan thrashed hosts Salernitana 5-0 to confirm their status as the winter champions for this season’s Italian Serie A. The win over the Serie A newcomers ensured that Inter Milan secured a sixth win in a row as far as league football is concerned.

Dutch national team player Dumfries made it two goals in as many league games when he found the back of the net with  the only goal of the Torino game. The win ensured that Inter Milan took their league winning run to seven games and also maintained their five-point lead over nearest challengers and city rivals AC Milan in the race for the Italian Serie A title.
